Success! Scottish Nature Photography Awards 2014

It's with great pleasure that I can announce that I have come 3rd in the 'Scottish Landscape Sea and Coast' Category of the Scottish Nature Photography Awards 2014. My selected image, "Incoming Tide, Loch Sunart", was chosen in what I'm assured was a very fiercely competitive category and the one from which the eventual winner - "The Boy" by Donald Cameron which is a lovely image - came from. It's always a great feeling to have one of your images recognised in this way and, as a Scot, having success in my 'home' awards means even more. I also had an image shortlisted in the 'Land' category.

My image will be included in the national exhibition which will be touring the country as well as the book of awards. I'll post more details about those when I have them.

I'll write a 'Making the Image' post sharing the backstory and my approach to the image shortly. In the meantime I'll leave you with the 2 images that were recognised.

LPOTY Success

I'm delighted to say that two of my images have been Commended in this year's Landscape Photographer of the Year competition. As well as appearing in the annual book the images will be displayed alongside a fine selection of winning and commended images during the official exhibition at the National Theatre in London.

Though I must be honest and say that I don't place a huge amount of stock in competitions - how can you really say some art is better than others? - it's still very reassuring and fulfilling to have two of my images so highly considered by such accomplished photographers and judges. It will be great to see them hanging in the company of many other fantastic images at the Exhibition (the images that is, not the judges! :)).

Congratulations to the winners and to everyone - including many friends and peers - who also met with success. From what I've seen so far there are many well deserved inclusions.

The LPOTY book is released on 31st October from Amazon. That's the Christmas presents for friends and family sorted. :)

The exhibition at the National Theatre is free and runs from 7th December 2013 until the 8^th February 2014 so do pop along if you find yourself in London. If anyone else is going to the private viewing on 9th December I'm hoping to make it along so it will be great to meet you.
